Disrupt is headed up by sustainability strategist, designer and social change agent Dr. Leyla Acaroglu, recognized internationally as a leading expert in disruptive design, sustainability and education. Leyla has a PhD in disruptive design for social and environmental change. In addition to being a TED speaker, Leyla is a well seasoned and respected author, award winning designer, activator and educator. She started the award winning, multi-disciplinary design studio Eco Innovators in 2009, which has become a leading provider of unique educational resources for design thinking through sustainability.  Leyla is the founder of The Un-School of Disruptive Design, pioneering social and environmental change by and through design. Her work spans across a variety of locations, fields and mediums, and is driven by her strong desire to effect, create, and see positive pro-sustainability change in the world.



Creative change-maker Emma Segal brings over two decades of experience designing and producing local and international manufactured consumer goods. She has a wealth of experience in sustainability, design and systems change that she brings to our dynamic creative approach to challenging the status quo by design. With formal training in international relations, design and illustration, she has a deep breadth of work from creating multi-million dollar programs for multi-national organizations to bootstrapped entrepreneurs. She works extensively in all aspects of design, as well as facilitating workshops around the world as an UnSchool Educator in sustainability, design and systems thinking. Her experience spans creating large scale fashion shoots, to factory apparel production trips in India, Thailand and China, New York fashion shows & magazine press visits, as well as designing for change-making projects to support the growth of the circular economy at all levels. Emma has won many design & illustration awards, and her work has been seen in Harrods, Nordstrom, Barneys, Fred Segal, Galleries Lafayette, movies, TV shows, magazines, been included in books on systems change and featured by the Smithsonian.

Heidi is a swiss army knife with a background in social entrepreneurship, leadership, communications and all around awesomeness. She has been part of the Disrupt Design team since Day 0 and her role involves a dynamic mix of communications, strategy, outreach, and community engagement. Heidi is a collaborator and consultant for social enterprises; in addition to her work with Disrupt Design, she also manages communications and community initiatives for the civic startup, miLES. Currently, she is splitting her time between New York and Mexico City, where she explores personal projects that range from unpacking Chilango slang to concocting the best possible batch of cold brew.



Vicky is a designer of meaningful systems and programs. She is the wizard behind the curtain who makes good things happen beautifully and effectively. With years of experience developing and managing global education programs, she brings a strategic and analytic core to help grow the impact of UnSchool programs. As Global Programs Manager, she is focused on the consistently fabulous delivery of UnSchool core programs as well as evolving offerings to un-school more communities. Vicky currently lives in Carrboro, NC and consults with global organizations to build capacity with smarter strategies, systems and stories. She is obsessed with busting knowledge silos, systems thinking for change, and connecting people, ideas and tools for greater access and impact. With her curiosity in rethinking education pathways, she is thrilled to be a part of the UnSchool’s exploration of knowledge transfer.
